Prospect: a sci-fi epic comprising seven hundred and fifty pages of densely packed text in three novels and two linking short stories, set in the deep and almost impenetrable mythos of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k. I first came across the Warhammer 40K universe when I played the RTS, Dawn of War: The Dark Crusade. However I ;ve never read any of the 40k expanded universe stuff. Those bastards are just north of phone book sized. I've recently started reading some books dealing with the lore of Warhammer 40k and am a little overwhelmed when shopping on Amazon. It is a fairly extensive online reference for all things Warhammer- Fantasy and 40K- and will help you translate some of the craziness. Eisenhorn (A Warhammer 40,000 Omnibus ) . Set within the timeline of Dan Abnett's mostly excellent Eisenhorn omnibus, which is one of the classics of Black Library fiction and a very good introductory set of novels to get your feet with the Warhammer 40,000 setting. I've been told that Dan Abnett gets good–but Eisenhorn (I have the omnibus, so fuck what all the individual novels are called) was his first foray into novel writing, I believe, and I facepalmed so heard throughout all of them. So you're getting a review for the whole kit and caboodle. I was a little leery of picking up the Eisenhorn omnibus, mainly because of the background of the Inquisition that I have seen thus far. David and I have both had a hankering for Warhammer 40K inspired fiction of late. Now, I read these books in the omnibus version (pictured above) which consisted of the novel Xenos, Malleus, and Hereticus, as well as the short stories Missing in Action and Backcloth for a Crown Additional. In my case, I'd love to reread Dan Abnett's amazing work for that brand, including Eisenhorn, Ravenor, and the Gaunt's Ghosts novels–but I own them in omnibus print editions. Was his editor a * puts on 40k nerd hat* The Eisenhorn series was actually created specifically to roll out a new specialty game for Games Workshop called Inquisition and Abnett had to take a lot of input from GW to help it tie in better to the game. I really enjoyed that 2011 by Jolo M.
